Asa – songs with conscience

What makes music meaningful? So many possible answers to that question! One is that it makes you feel a little bit more alive, another is that it makes you think differently about the world around  you. French-Nigerian singer Asa‘s first album was full of songs protesting the Nigerian government’s corruption and insensitivity to the environment. Her recently released second, Beautiful Imperfection, is more of a feel good affair, but Asa still knows where she stands politically, giving her support via Twitter to the thousands of Nigerians who recently took to the streets of Lagos to protest a move by the government to lift a longstanding fuel subsidy causing pump prices to more than double.

Asa has already opened for Snoop Dogg and Beyonce but has no plans that I can see of to come to the States.
